Professor Stuart Monro

Professor Stuart Monro, OBE, BSc, PhD, CGeol, FGS, FHEA, FRSSA, FRSE, FSA Scot  - Trustee

Stuart Monro is Scientific Director at Our Dynamic Earth on a part-time basis and a leading practitioner in promoting science to a wide audience. 

Stuart has over 34 years of scientific research experience with the British Geological Survey as a Principal Geologist.  He is also currently Scientific Director of the Edinburgh Consortium for Rural Research.

Stuart is a Non-Executive Director of the Edinburgh International Science Festival, chair of the Earth Science Trust and was the first independent co-chair of the Scottish Science Advisory Council. 

Stuart has significant experience of teaching geology at all levels in the Open University and has been a member of the Council of the Open University.  Currently he is Vice-Convener of Edinburgh University Court and a Visiting Professor in the School of GeoSciences of the University of Edinburgh. He is a Fellow of the Royal Scottish Society of Arts, the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Stuart became a Trustee of National Museums Scotland in 2005 and his second term of appointment runs until March 2013. He lives in Edinburgh.
