National Museums Scotland

Collections and research

The Collections Directorate is responsible for all the objects and specimens accummulated during the two hundred years of the Museums' history.

These range from fossils showing evidence of the earliest forms of life to contemporary aircraft. They are international in scope, ranging from Scottish history through natural sciences to world culture. Staff in the Directorate carry out research projects to develop and share greater understanding of the collections.
