Check in for the Jet Age and Parachute Store!

Check out the latest arrivals at East Fortune and check into the golden age of passenger air travel.

Joining Concorde, Fantastic Flight! and Fortunes of War, two new exhibitions The Jet Age and Parachute Store are now open at National Museum of Flight.

The Jet Age

The Jet Age, a new exhibition is now open at National Museum of Flight, East Fortune. The Jet Age celebrates the role of the Boeing 707 in the creation of the original "jet-set" of the 1960s.

Housed in the front fuselage of a massive Boeing 707, the exhibition uses a mix of video footage, photographs and objects from the time and personal stories from former air and ground crew to explain the aircraft's role in ushering in the age of commercial passenger travel.

Second World War Parachute Store

Newly restored to its original Second World War appearance, the Parachute Store is where parachutes were dried and repacked ready for use. See the original furniture and storage used, but mind your head as our parachutes hang from the ceiling!

The Using a 1936 Parachute Maintenance manual, the Parachute Store has been carefully recreated.  You will see the pulleys holding drying parachutes from the ceiling, original stoves that were used to keep the store warm and dry and a very long table where the parachutes were laid out ready to be packed.
