NMS Enterprises Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of National Museums Scotland and provides support by gifting its potential profit to National Museums Scotland at the end of each financial year.

The company has departments in Publishing, Retail, and Hospitality & Events, as well as responsibility for the National Museums Scotland Picture Library and related activities of image licensing, copyright and product development.

It provides a professional and innovative, customer-based service to visitors and clients of National Museums Scotland and the wider cultural sector. Through the use of images or the printed word, a distinctive shopping experience or a range of unique and exciting events, NMS Enterprises Limited aims to promote the work of National Museums Scotland to a worldwide audience.

Books published by National Museums Scotland reflect the range and international importance of our collections.

Publications vary from full-colour exhibition catalogues to children's books, academic monographs, biography and souvenir booklets.

Themes include applied art, archaeology, natural history, conservation, and Scottish history and culture. The list of titles represents collections from all our museums.

Each of the Museums has a shop reflecting its collections and including specially commissioned replicas of items on display. They stock a selection of gifts from pocket money toys to hand-crafted scarves, glassware and designer jewellery. A complementary range of books for both adults and children completes a unique shopping experience.

Museum shops

There are three shops in the National Museum of Scotland, stocking an extensive selection of imaginative gifts, souvenirs, toys and books. The largest shop can be found in the Entrance Hall, with further shops next by the Tower Entrance and on Level 3 next to the Exhibitions Gallery. 

Other shops are to be found at the National Museum of Flight in East Lothian, the National War Museum at Edinburgh Castle and the National Museum of Rural Life at East Kilbride. These museum shops are open to non-museum visitors.

Members' discount

Members of National Museums Scotland qualify for a discount in all our museum shops and benfit form regular offers.

The Hospitality & Events team promote the use of the museum galleries and spaces for corporate and private hire.
