Radio receiver

Radios

National Museums Scotland collections contain a huge variety of objects and specimens. We  want to encourage wider engagement with the collections and increase opportunities for them to be seen in new venues by new audiences. The radios shown here are all available for long or short term loan.

Radio Ga Ga

Today we can listen to our music on the go and carry a tiny piece of technology. Try carrying these around in your pocket! Radio wave technology was beginning to be understood by the end of the 19th century, but it was in the first half of the 20th century that radio broadcasting was developed as a method of communication and entertainment. Here are some examples from 1920-50.
