The One Nation, Five Million Voices
teaching materials pack was produced as a result of a
collaboration between National Museums Scotland CLAN.
It offers resources
for exploring many issues relevant to the Adult Literacy and
Numeracy Curriculum Framework .
The resources provided an opportunity to develop critical
awareness of language and culture, to encourage learners’ self
determination by valuing their own identity and choices, and to
celebrate difference and diversity.

The teaching materials included a DVD and transcript and
suggested approaches and materials for working with individual
learners and groups.
Scotland: A Changing Nation
The film, One
Nation, FIve Million Voices was produced in 2008 by National
Museums Scotland. The film is a permanent feature in the
Scotland: A Changing Nation gallery.
The gallery traces the varied experiences of people living and
working in Scotland and explores five major themes affecting life
in Scotland including war, industry, daily life, social change and
immigration. The final part of the journey celebrates Scottish
achievement in sport, culture, medicine, science and
technology.
