Schools

Since 2004, NMS Archaeology and Access and Outreach have worked together to offer schools across Moray the chance to learn more about this amazing site.

Local school pupils and many others visited the dig to see archaeology in action. Tours were led by on-site archaeologists, and pupils given the chance to test their new-found skills and discover their own finds through sifting the ploughsoil. One class even discovered a piece of Iron Age bangle – a real find! The tours and workshops gave the pupils a sense of how the site had been used over the years, from its earliest beginnings right up to the present day.

Some pupils went on to create artwork based around the site, developed activities which expanded their understanding of the Iron Age and made their own Birnie souvenirs.
