Treasured handling box

Discover a treasure trove of objects and activities.

Handle real objects and copies of things in the exhibition Treasured: Wonderful Things, Amazing Stories, including a brownie hawkeye camera, fossils, Samurai helmet, 19th century dress, Wedgwood china, Mexican Day of the Dead masks and a real cheetah skin!

Designed for family and other informal learning groups, the box can be used at your own venue and is a great way to investigate objects and the Treasured exhibition. Each object has a handy fact sheet, with further activity ideas and materials to try with your group, such as mask making, sun photo printing and making fossils from moulds.

Mhairi McNeil, Family Learning Worker, South West Edinburgh

“I think it’s really brilliant! It’s really good for the kids to go through the different layers and find things.”
Lorna, Parent

“I think it’s great that the kids get to try on dresses and touch real stuff.”
