Complex roundhouse and later furnaces

Above: This aerial view shows the ring of posts
from a massive roundhouse, 19 metres in diameter. The dark curved
area is where the animals were kept. Overlying it are traces of
later activity – a cobbled area and an iron furnace. The dots in
the corner are a fence line.

Above: Artist’s reconstruction of this
house.

Left: Remains of two later iron-smelting
furnaces. The orange areas are the collapsed clay chimneys.
Right: Sampling one of the furnaces in order to
see how old it is.
