Picts
Museum on the Move: Picts is a handling
resource, but bigger than most museum loans boxes. It is almost a
mini touring exhibition that contains replica objects and
activities to be used by your class in groups, pairs or for
individual work.
Through hands-on activities, Museum on the Move: Picts will
explore four main themes about the Picts:
- Who were the Picts? Their name means painted
people but it’s unlikely this is what they called themselves. Other
peoples, such as the Romans, have written about them.
- Where were the Picts? They lived and
flourished in only a few specific parts of Scotland.
- How do we know about them? The Picts left a
legacy of impressive stones, one of the main sources of evidence
about them: from these we try to understand about their lives and
activities (hunting, fighting, status, beliefs).
- What did they believe? The Picts gradually
embraced Christianity.
Museum on the Move: Picts has been designed to meet the needs of
teachers and pupils to deliver A Curriculum
For Excellence (ACE). Please refer to our download: Teachers’
Notes (Preparing to use the resource) for more information on how
this resource meets the curriculum.
