The Storming of Tel-el-Kebir

The battle of Tel-el-Kebir was a decisive moment in the British maintaining order in Egypt in the late 19th century. Alphonse Marie de Neauville captured the drama of the battle in this spectacular oil painting, The Storming of Tel-el-Kebir, which can be seen on display at the National War Museum, Edinburgh Castle.

To see the fine detail in the painting and find out who some of the subjects are, zoom in on the image below. Use the controls in the bottom right hand corner of the image to zoom in and out, or click or scroll in and out using your mouse. Click on the blue buttons to reveal the soldiers' names. Can you spot the Regimental Irish Setter? Discover the story behind the painting The Storming of Tel-el-Kebir here.
