The aim of the project was to investigate aspects of
the Womens' Suffrage Movement.
Ways of Seeing forms part of the Gude Cause project, which
celebrates the centenary of the 1909 Womens' Suffrage Movement
procession along Princes Street, Edinburgh.

Who took part?
The Ways of Seeing group consisted of 19 adult learners (aged
60+) from North Edinburgh. The group make regular visits to museums
and galleries in Edinburgh. It was on one of these visits to the
National Museum of Scotland that the idea for the project was
born.
The project was designed as a way of allowing the group to come
into direct contact with more of our national collections and
demonstrate the breadth of resources we have.
Part of the project involved making a short film, Ways of
Seeing the Suffragettes. You can see a short
two-minute taster of the film here. A transcript of the edited
film can be downloaded here.
