How to book and FAQs

Arranging a school trip to our museums? Here you'll find information on how to book your visit.

An unforgettable learning experience is only a few simple steps away. Choose from: 

  • An expert-led workshop with our specially trained staff. Download our primary and secondary school programmes for information on all the workshops on offer.
  • Free downloadable resources to support your workshop or museum visit.
  • Our teacher-led object handling boxes.
  • A teacher-led visit to one of our five museums.
  • A Continuing Professional Development session.

How much does the visit cost and how do we pay?

  • Admission to all our museums is free for all pre-booked school groups.
  • The cost for workshops and activities is £65 per session unless otherwise stated.
  • Use of handling boxes is free for self-led visits.
  • Your school will be invoiced following your visit.

How long will our workshop last and when should we arrive?

  • The duration of all workshops can be found in the schools programmes.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes before your workshop is due to begin so you can use the toilets and put bags and coats in the cloakroom.
  • You should allow additional time after your workshop if you wish to visit the shop.

Will there be time for us to visit the galleries?

  • We recommend that if you book a morning workshop you visit the galleries after lunch.
  • If you book and afternoon workshop you should visit the galleries before lunch.

What is the maximum class size?

  • Sessions are for one class (33 pupils) unless otherwise stated.

What information do I need to provide when booking?

  • Which one of our museums you would like to visit
  • The workshops and activities you would like to take part in
  • Name and address of school
  • School telephone number
  • Name of group leader
  • Group leader e-mail address
  • Number and age of pupils
  • Number of adults (ratio 1 adult: 10 children)
  • Preferred date and time for your visit
  • Packed lunch requirements

How do we cancel our visit?

If you need to cancel please give as much notice as possible. We may have to charge an administration fee if you cancel within three weeks of your planned visit.
