Lasting legacy

"She had such style. Real style that you could recognise. I love her for her individuality, her way of seeing a woman... "- Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Muir died from breast cancer on 28 May 1995 but her loyal staff continued to produce collections incorporating the brand’s distinctive design ethos. However, in 2007, shortly after celebrating its 40th anniversary, Jean Muir Ltd closed.

Jean Muir was passionate about design and a huge advocate for the craft of dressmaking. She cared deeply about the training of new designers and dressmakers. The generous donation of the Jean Muir Collection to National Museums Scotland will ensure that Muir's passion for design will continue to encourage and inspire future generations of designers.
