Ayrshire cow

Names and Numbers

How many cows do you have and what are their names?

Numbers

There are over 20 dairy cows and heifers in the herd. They cows give birth to calves from the end of January and can continue until late Spring.

Names

The heifer or female calves are all named after their mothers, for pedigree status, and all are registered with the Ayrshire Cattle Society of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Names in our herd include: Nora “very good production for milk production”, Carrie “very good calf producer” and Ruby, a descendant from the prestigious Pant line, which can be traced back to the 1950s. They wear ear tags which displays the family name.
