Tawona and Ernest Sithole

Tawona and Ernest came to Glasgow from
Zimbabwe. They brought their mbira, an instrument passed through
five generations of their family.
It was played at home, even when banned. This
was risky. Many people were hanged for this. Mbira was part of
cultural identity removed during colonial rule and was banned until
Zimbabwe regained independence in 1980.
