National Museum of Scotland launch campaign

There is a great deal of activity underway to launch the transformed National Museum of Scotland. One of the most visible aspects will be our advertising campaign which went live on 18 July 2011 - starting with banners on Princes Street, Edinburgh.

The advertising campaign is part of our wider marketing strategy for local, national and international audiences, aimed at encouraging over a million visitors through our doors in the first year of opening.

We have created a quirky campaign to capture the imagination of our visitors, with ten different treatments that show the range of our collections. We are rolling the adverts out into the city with help from great local partners and over the next few weeks it will be on posters, buses and shop window displays, as well as newspapers and magazines. This will all add to the excitement that is already building towards opening.

The idea is centred on contrasts and similarities – both visual and verbal. The treatments showcase our unique diversity of objects by pairing artefacts in unexpected ways. The campaign line encourages visitors to follow up what they see and “Discover the bigger picture” at the museum.

The campaign will run until December. You can find out more about the planning behind the advertising campaign on our blog.
