Dolly the sheep

Me2

Come face to face with the world’s most famous cloned sheep – Dolly.

Dolly the Sheep

Dolly hit the headlines in 1997 as the first mammal cloned from an adult cell. She was born at the Roslin Institute just outside Edinburgh, on 5 July 1996.

One of the aims of creating her was to find out whether an adult cell could be reprogrammed and develop normally into a new embryo.

Cloning Dolly from an adult cell has opened up many possibilities for medical and agricultural advances for human benefit. It has also raised important questions about cloning and ethics. You will learn more about these debates in the interactive displays alongside Dolly.

Who's like you?

In this interactive display you will have a chance to create a character with some of your own features, such as eye colour and ear shape.

Does this person look like you? How easy is it to make someone who is exactly like you?

Unless you are an identical twin, there is nobody on earth who looks exactly like you – you are unique!

Vote on cloning

This poll gives some essential information about the major debates of cloning and genetic modification (GM). It then asks you to vote on several issues. What does the future hold for genetics? Have your say about you would and wouldn’t like to see happen.

GM: for or against

This interactive poll gives some essential information about the major debates of cloning and genetic modification (GM). It then asks you to vote on several issues according to your best judgement. What does the future hold for genetics? Have your say about what you would and wouldn’t like to see happen.
