Magic Carpet

What's on weekly for families?

Take a trip on the Magic Carpet or join in Family Family Fun at the National Museum of Scotland.


Magic Carpet

Dates: Wednesdays during term time
Time: 10:30–10:55 and 11:30-11:55
Cost: Free, suitable for ages 2-4 (plus accompanying adult)
Booking: Limited places – sign up on the day at the Information Desk in the Entrance Hall and then meet at the Lighthouse Lens in the Grand Gallery, Level 1.

Our magic carpet introduces little ones to some of the fantastic things in the Museum through 25 minutes of stories, songs and activities. Find out more in this All aboard the Magic Carpet! blog post.


Magic Carpet Minis

Dates: Thursdays during term time
Time: 10:30–10:50 and 11:30-11:50
Cost: Free, suitable for ages 0-2 (plus accompanying adult)
Booking: Limited places – sign up on the day at the Information Desk in the Entrance Hall and then meet at the Lighthouse Lens in the Grand Gallery, Level 1.

We're piloting new magic carpet sessions especially for really young children and their carers. Come along for songs, stories, rhymes and objects in the unique museum setting. 

Please note that the age recommendations are guidelines only based on the type of activity we will be offering. You are welcome to see which is the most suitable for your little ones.


Friday Afternoon Fun

Dates: Fridays during term time
Time: 13:30–16:30 (drop-in)
Venue: Check out information screens on the day for details
Cost: Free

Let out of school early? Make the most of your half-day Friday and come have some fun with us!  Drop by our free activities like science, make- and-take and object handling. Check out the Information Screens for details for activities and locations on the day.
