Tools of the trade

The equipment of war tells a story all of its own.

As in most other jobs, sailors, soldiers and airmen have needed special clothing and equipment to perform their tasks.

Violence, or the threat of violence, has always been at the core of this occupation. so weapons are essential. Extreme conditions are also an aspect of war, and servicemen must be properly equipped to face anything.

Things to see

The objects in this gallery were all developed to equip the individual for war. See the weapons, equipment and clothing developed to meet the demands of war, from Highland broadswords to modern rifles, protective suits to medical kits.
