Honorary Fellowship for National Museums Scotland curator

This February saw National Museums Scotland’s Dr Andrew Kitchener awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS).

The award was presented by HRH The Princess Royal, patron of the RZSS, at a special ceremony on 23 February at Edinburgh Zoo.

This was a particularly significant occasion as the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland is celebrating its centenary year, and the Honorary Fellowships bestowed this year are the first to be awarded by the Society in over ten years.

Dr Kitchener is the Principal Curator of birds and mammals at the Museums. The Fellowship recognises the substantial contribution he has made to conservation and zoology in Scotland.

Dr Kitchener is currently working on the development of the new natural sciences galleries in the Royal Museum, which are due to open in 2011.
