Our collections encompass Scottish and international
archaeology, decorative and applied arts, world cultures, social
history, science technology and the natural world.
We also provide advice, expertise and support to the museum
community across Scotland and undertake fieldwork, research and
partnerships at local, national and international levels.
As a work placement student aged over 18 you will share our
passionate belief in the Museum's mission to preserve, interpret
and make accessible for all the past and present of Scotland, of
other nations and cultures, and of the natural world.
What's in it for you?
- Show you have experience of being in the workplace
- Demonstrate to future employers you can take on
responsibility
- Develop your interpersonal skills and experiences
- Explore career options within the museum sector.
Placements within our museums are usually unpaid and arranged
through academic organisations that have clear links with our aims
and objectives. The placement is always made for an agreed period
of time.
A position is offered when a match is identified between
projects or work being available within our departments and the
objectives of the applicant's course of study. We will then arrange
an informal interview, followed by the necessary reference and
police checks.
