National War Museum

World War.
Life on the Western Front

Meet the troops from 1914 – 18 as our
re-enactment group the Gordon Highlanders are put through their
paces. Find out about the hardships faced by the Scottish soldiers
during the First World War.
- What was it like wearing your kilt in the trenches amongst the
mud and lice?
- Could you stomach the food, combat boredom and prepare yourself
to face the enemy?

Our regular troops are joined by members of the nursing core who
share the importance of their role in the conflict. There will be
plenty of opportunities for you get ‘hands on’ with our object
handling and dressing up.
