Enrich your classroom teaching with the help of our incredible collections and engaging programmes.

We have over 12 million objects, covering a range of topics and four museums: National Museum of Scotland (Edinburgh), National War Museum (Edinburgh), National Museum of Flight (East Lothian) and National Museum of Rural Life (East Kilbride).

What’s on offer?

From August 2020, we will continue to support your teaching and learning by offering different ways for your classes to connect with us virtually.

Online resources

Suitable for pupils to do at home or in school, our activities include Broad General Education and Senior Phase content and cover topics within Social Studies, Languages and STEM.

  • Quick wins – ten minute activities, with extension activities
  • Primary resources including literacy, maths, modern languages and more
  • Secondary resources including parasites, fashion, social studies and more

Live virtual sessions

These will cover popular school topics, including Romans, Second World War and STEM. As well as sessions for pupils, we’ll also be offering teacher events to support your return to school. More details about these will be released in September.

Maths Week Scotland

Maths Week Scotland will take place 28 September–4 October 2020. There will be a variety of resources available for schools, including online bookable sessions for your class. Sign up your school to be involved now.

Visiting our museums

At present, we are not taking bookings for school or group visits to our museums. When our museums reopen, small groups from the same household, of six or less people, can pre-book to visit our museums. We will review this in September and update this page and our social media when this changes.

To be notified once school bookings reopen, subscribe to our teachers’ newsletter.
