We have over 12 million objects, covering a range of topics and four museums: National Museum of Scotland (Edinburgh), National War Museum (Edinburgh), National Museum of Flight (East Lothian) and National Museum of Rural Life (East Kilbride).

Visiting our museums

We can now accept bookings for educational visits to the National Museum of Scotland, the National Museum of Flight and the National Museum of Rural Life.

National Museum of Scotland

The National Museum of Scotland can now offer free admission to pre-booked educational groups from Scotland for teacher-led visits.

National War Museum

The National War Museum is located in Edinburgh Castle, run by Historic Environment Scotland. Free admission is available to pre-booked educational groups for visits to the National War Museum and the rest of the Castle. School bookings are currently being managed by Historic Environment Scotland.

National Museum of Flight

The National Museum of Flight can now offer free admission to pre-booked educational groups from Scotland during September & October 2021 for teacher-led visits.

Bookings are also open for schools workshops from 1 November onwards, including our popular sessions A Journey in Stories, Fantastic Flying Forces, and Second World War. The sessions are £75 per class and are available Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays until March 2022.

National Museum of Rural Life

The National Museum of Rural Life can now offer free admission to pre-booked educational groups from Scotland for teacher-led visits.

Digital resources and sessions

We continue to support your teaching and learning by offering different ways for your classes to connect with us virtually. 

Online resources

Suitable for pupils to do at home or in school, our activities include Broad General Education and Senior Phase content and cover topics within Social Studies, Languages and STEM.
