The white areas of the cloth were produced by pressing the cloth between two lead plates. A discharging liquid would be passed through the plates and where it came into contact with the cloth it bleached away the red dye. The black detail of the tiger and the man was then overprinted with a copper plate. This design was manufactured by John Orr Ewing and Co., probably sometime before 1866.
