Join Maria Casely-Hayford and Sequoia Barnes in a conversation exploring Black British fashion.
Discover the trailblazing career of fashion designer Joe Casely-Hayford OBE in this conversation with Sequoia Barnes and Maria Casely-Hayford.
Casely-Hayford, who passed away in 2019, was one of the UK’s most respected designers of mens and womenswear, fusing street style influences with a sophisticated look. His wife, Maria Casely-Hayford will discuss the four decades of his career at the forefront of a new generation of multi-cultural designers.
Maria will be joined by design scholar Sequoia Barnes, curator of the ‘Black Futures’ section within the current Beyond the Little Black Dress exhibition. The section begins with Joe Casely-Hayford’s spring/summer 1999 collection and explores his enduring legacy.
Beyond the Little Black Dress charts a century of fashion, from 20th century pieces by Chanel and Dior to contemporary looks, including those by ground-breaking Black British designers like Joe Casely-Hayford and Maximilian.
This event is suitable for ages 14+.
