Join us at the National Museum of Scotland for a special Gaelic Magic Carpet session.

Thig còmhla rinn aig Taigh-tasgaidh Nàiseanta na h-Alba airson seisean sònraichte Gàidhlig Magic Carpet.

As part of Gaelic Week Edinburgh, we’re offering the opportunity for little ones to engage with Gaelic in our interactive session, featuring stories, songs, rhymes and object handling.

This event is suitable for under 5s and their adult. No knowledge of Gaelic required!

Children must be accompanied by an adult (max two children per adult). All attendees must book a ticket.

Mar phàirt de Sheachdain na Gàidhlig | Dùn Èideann, tha sinn a’ toirt cothrom dhan fheadhainn bheaga a dhol an sàs sa Ghàidhlig nar seisean eadar-obrachail, le sgeulachdan, òrain, rannan agus làimhseachadh stuthan.

Tha an tachartas seo freagarrach dha clann fo aois 5 agus an inbheach. Cha leig thu leas a bhith fileanta sa Ghàidhlig!

Feumaidh inbheach a bhith còmhla ris a’ chloinn (dithis chloinne aig a’ char as motha airson gach inbheach). Feumaidh gach neach-frithealaidh tiocaid a ghlèidheadh.

Gaelic Week Edinburgh

Part of Seachdain na Gàidhlig Dùn Èideann (Gaelic Week Edinburgh), 20–26 February 2023. This year’s festival theme is “Coming Together / A’ Tighinn Còmhla”, inspired by post-pandemic recovery.

The session will take place in the Kingdom of Scots gallery on Level 1.

On the day

Please make your way to the Kingdom of the Scots gallery on Level 1.

If you are visiting with a pram or buggy we advise you to use the Tower Entrance at the corner of Chambers Street and George IV Bridge. Lifts are available to all floors and accessible toilets and changing spaces are available on most floors, as well as a Changing Places (U) toilet in the Entrance Hall on Level 0. There is no buggy park in the museum so please keep your pram or buggy with you at all times.

On the Magic Carpet

We want to keep the Magic Carpet a comfortable and safe space for all so please remove your shoes before you sit down. The session will last approximately 45 mins. If at any point you need to stand up, walk around, take some time out to settle your little one please do so. Adults are usually seated with their child on the Magic Carpet so they can play together but if you require additional seating for health or comfort reasons please let us know. Adults are responsible for their child at all times.

Feeding and changing

Please feel free to give your little one milk or water during the session. We kindly ask that no other snacks are consumed on the Magic Carpet. At the start of each session we will let you know where the nearest baby changing facility is and also public seating with backs should this be easier for feeding.

Masks and illness

We continue to follow Scottish Government guidelines for COVID procedures. Our staff may choose to wear a facemask while delivering Magic Carpet and we encourage you to do what makes you most comfortable. Please only attend sessions if you and your child are feeling well.
