Length of cotton cloth with an orange printed design, known as a chitenje, from Malawi. The cloth was commissioned by The Peoples Party political party in 2014. The design is printed as political campaign cloth commissioned by the People's Party, a political party in the Republic of Malawi founded in 2011 by Joyce Banda, from May 2009 to April 2012 Vice-President of Malawi, and President from April 7, 2012 until 20 May 2014 when she was defeated in the country's presidential election by Peter Mutharika. Joyce Banda created the People's Party after being expelled from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party when she refused to endorse President Bingu wa Mutharika's younger brother Peter Mutharika as the successor to the presidency for the 2014 general election. Repeating motifs on an orange background include an open padlock and key which is the party emblem, head and shoulders portrait photographic image of Banda wearing an orange patterned outfit (a change from the earlier purple patterned outfit V. 2013.36) with legend 'Peoples Party Joyce Banda' and a feature open lock and key both contained in circular frame with white background. Upper edge border has the English translation of the party motto in a repeating pattern of script 'Development, Unity and Fairness' and lower borders have the motto in Chichewa in repeating pattern of script 'Chitukuko Umodzi, Kusakondera'. Below is a repeating geometric pattern of orange on white background. At both upper and lower edge is a repeating script 'Peoples Party' in black and white. On the lower selvedge is the factory logo 'Mapeto Whitex Fabric (Malawi) Special Customer print D No.13604'. The short edges are unhemmed.
