The detachable domed lid with incised concentric lines, surmounted by a stepped spool finial. Engraved to body and lid with a crest of a Griffin’s head erased. Marked underneath and to lid flange with maker’s mark, assay master’s mark and alligator’s head (from 1747).
Accepted in lieu of Inheritance Tax by H M Government from the estate of Robert Barker and allocated to the National Museums Scotland [or NMS], 2021
