Years of rationing during the Second World War meant people had limited resources, making the most of what they had available. To mark the end of the war on VE day many people used sheets of newspaper to create paper hats in celebration.

What do you need?

  • One full sheet of newspaper (a sheet of A3 paper, or two sheets of A4 paper taped together would work too!)
  • Felt pens or crayons to decorate it

What do you do?

Play and pause the film below for instructions to make your paper hat.

Make sure the subtitle captions within the YouTube settings are on at the bottom right hand corner of the screen once you select play.
