Jewellery is an incredibly powerful and personal form of expression. Whether the individual is a collector or designer, what they choose to buy, commission or create defines them. Jewellery can also be a witty, exciting - sometimes inexpensive - sometimes provocative way to make a fashion, social or political statement.
The exhibition considered work by people who are or were involved in collecting, commissioning or creating jewellery.
Terry Brodie-Smith commissioned and collected work from nationally and internationally renowned designers and took great pleasure wearing the pieces.
The internationally famous fashion designer, Jean Muir, commissioned two young designers, Caroline Broadhead and Nuala Jameson to create jewellery to complement her work.
David Watkins and Wendy Ramshaw, two of the UK’s leading jewellers, have been married for over fifty years. Both have been designing and making jewellery since the 1960s, collaborating together as well as pursuing their own individual careers. Both are known for their experimental approach to materials and technology.
