Physical description

Woman's cocktail dress of black silk faille, part of an ensemble with detachable bustier in self material, see K.2018.3.2. Woman’s dress in black silk faille with high standing wide lapelled collar, open down the centre front with wide revers, fastening on the wearers left hand side with one metal hook and eye and an internal waist tape fastening with one metal hook and eye, pleated into line of collar bone with 3 knife pleats on either side with shoulder seam extending from the collar to create the curve of the shoulder. Bodice fitted into waistline, long-sleeved, with one box pleat toward the lower part of the sleeve. Wearer's right sleeve has been folded up at the cuff, left sleeve is full length, triangular panel sewn into the armpit of the bodice to help with movement. Knee-length sheath line asymmetrical skirt with silk cascading from the waistline in draping folds, skirt fastening at the wearers left side with 5 metal hooks and eyes alternating with 5 press studs, large silk ruched panel on wearer's left side to create voluminous asymmetric shape. When laid flat the ruched silk panel is circular in shape, lined with tulle for extra volume. Bodice is fitted into waistline at centre back, the skirt is made of two panels of silk faille fitted into the waist line at the centre back with central seam running from centre back of waist to hem, unlined.
