About Deaf Families Museum Takeover

As part of Edinburgh Deaf Festival and in partnership with Deaf Action, join us for a day of activities for deaf families throughout the museum.

Designed for families with children ages 0–11, the day will feature a range of free activities for different age groups, including sensory play, crafts, BSL storytelling, object handling, creative activities and family-friendly experiences inspired by the museum’s collections.

The event will also include accessible family activities, BSL-supported sessions and opportunities for families to explore the museum in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Good to know

  • Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
  • BSL interpreters will be available. Please note some sessions may be led in BSL and interpreted into English.
  • This event is for all deaf families. You are welcome whether you are a deaf parent or have deaf children. Siblings are welcome too. Activities are suitable for people who use BSL or English and interpreters will be available.
