Sharing our knowledge and expertise strengthens the museum sector in Scotland and deepens our relationships with other organisations.

Our work across Scotland delivers many outcomes: sharing the national collections, engagement with local communities, direct support for our sector, and enjoyable and enriching opportunities for all.

Our work across Scotland

We support the sector in Scotland by providing training and guidance and a range of resources available for free use, which have been developed as part of our national programmes. We also work with partner organisations to review their collections.

Delivering Across Scotland: National Strategy 2023-2027

Delivering Across Scotland: National Strategy 2023-2027 is our fifth National Strategy. It continues long-standing programmes delivered by National Museums Scotland across Scotland and in support of our sector.

Supporting our sector

  • Training and guidance for museums

We provide expert advice on collections, their identification, care and management. We also offer wider skills training to museums in Scotland.
  • National Fund for Acquisitions

The National Fund for Acquisitions helps museums, galleries, libraries and archives throughout Scotland to make acquisitions for their collections.
  • Cluster of silver objects on a black surface viewed from above. Two decorated metal strips in the centre with 9 brooches, mostly round, surrounding them.

    The Galloway Hoard National Tour

The Galloway Hoard brings together the richest collection of rare and unique Viking-age objects ever found in Britain or Ireland.

Acknowledge our support

We have provided guidance documents on how to acknowledge support from National Museums Scotland.
