Getting here

Arriving at the museum

When you arrive at the museum you must present your ticket (either printed or on a smartphone) or provide your order number. You can also book a ticket on arrival. 

Please also bring along your National Museums Scotland Membership card, Annual Pass ticket, or National Trust for Scotland Membership card (as appropriate).

After checking in, you are welcome to stay in the museum for as long as you like until closing time.

Facilities

Parking

Free parking available. There are 12 designated Blue Badge parking bays in the car park.

Information

Our information and ticket desk is at the entrance to our museum on the first floor.

Toilets

Toilets are available in the museum and on the working farm. 

Visiting with babies

Baby changing facilities and a breastfeeding room are available.

Lifts and ramps

The museum is accessible via lifts and ramps. 

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome in the museum buildings and on the outdoor site.

Non-assistance dogs

Dogs are welcome outdoors, but must be on a lead. They are not allowed in the museum buildings, Farm Explorer, or picnic area.

Café

The Shielings Café  is open daily from 10:00–17:00.

Picnic area

Access to the play and picnic area is free with admission. 

Shop

The museum shop sells a range of gifts and books.

Contactless payments

Card payments are the preferred payment method.

Farm Explorer

Farm Explorer tractor-trailer ride tickets are available at the museum ticket desk on a first come, first serve basis.
