Rebecca McManus
Responsible for: Preparation of vertebrate specimens for the collections.
Research Interest/Expertise: Finite element analysis of skeletal systems, osteological based age determination methods in mammals.
Rebecca started at the University of Dundee and completed a CertHE in Art and Design before discovering a love for physics and the natural world. Throughout her Physics BSc she was inspired by natural science collections and became interested in collecting local species of vertebrates and exploring methods of preparation. After graduating, she spent time volunteering at the Otter Project at Cardiff University where she learnt how to dissect otters and take a wide array of biological samples.
Rebecca joined National Museums Scotland in 2024 as Negaunee Curatorial Preparator and is responsible for preserving study skins and cleaning skeletal remains for the research collections and use in research projects.
