The dinosaur, named Tyrone, will move amongst visitors at the event and is the same size as an infant Tyrannosaurus rex. It was created by Millennium FX, a special events company that has worked on productions including Dr Who and Tomb Raider.
Robots Live! includes robots from the UK Astronomy Technology Centre in Edinburgh, which designs and builds instruments for many of the world’s major telescopes. The event will also feature a bionic hand from Scottish company Touch Bionics together with prosthetic limbs from National Museums Scotland’s collections.
A series of exciting robot battles held in the shadow of the Museum’s Concorde exhibit, will see robots locked in combat and there will be plenty of bangs, whistles and experiments with liquid nitrogen as part of the Rock the Lab science show. Visitors will be able to have their faces painted by special effects make-up artists, and can enjoy computer gaming sessions plus the chance to navigate a Segway personal transporter around a special obstacle course.
Steve McLean, General Manager, National Museum of Flight said:
