
About Member Event: Decoding the Jewels
Join us for an exclusive Member-only online event to explore the significance of Renaissance jewellery in 16th century Scotland.
Dr Anna Groundwater, Principal Curator of Renaissance and Early Modern History, and Deborah Clarke, former Senior Curator of Holyroodhouse Palace, will reveal the stories of several magnificent Renaissance jewels, including the elaborate Lennox and Fettercairn Jewels.
Through their discussion, they will decode the meaning of these jewels. within the wider culture of the wearing, gifting and making of jewellery during the time of Mary, Queen of Scots.
They will also introduce the book Decoding the Jewels: Renaissance Jewellery in Scotland, a collection of essays by key art historians and curators. These include Anna and Deborah, as well as other curatorial and conservation colleagues at National Museums Scotland.
