Dr Laura Young

Dr Laura Young, MBE

Laura became a Trustee of National Museums Scotland in October 2018 and her term of appointment runs until September 2022.

Laura Young is now working as an executive coach, helping founders and CEOs develop their businesses and think strategically. She is a multi-award-winning social entrepreneur and founder of the children’s mental health charity, Teapot Trust, which now operates in 15 NHS Health Boards across the UK. Based in East Lothian, Teapot Trust is dedicated to providing art therapy and art activities to children coping with long-term health conditions.

She is a Guild Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge; received an Honorary Doctorate from Queen Margaret University in 2015, and in 2016 was awarded an MBE in recognition of her services to children with health conditions. She is a Mental Health First Aider. Laura is currently studying for her Master’s in Executive Coaching, with the Institute of Leadership Management.

Laura began her career 30 years ago at the Science Museum, London, and remains an ardent supporter of museums and heritage crafts. She has a particular interest in how arts and culture contribute to health and a sense of wellbeing. She enjoys being a Trustee at Scotland’s National Museum and the stewardship of its growing collections.

Laura lives in Gullane.
