About February Half Term: Navigation
Discover how RAF aircrew found their way in the Second World War with our half term family activities.
Before satellite navigation, specially trained navigators guided RAF aircrews across the night skies. They could find their way via calculations and compasses even when the sky was dark and landmarks could not be seen.
Test your navigation skills with a series of fun family challenges this February half term.
Drop-in activities
Where are you?
When: 10:00 - 13:00, 14:00 - 15:00
Learn how mental arithmetic and a calculator with no electronics helped aircrew to find their way across Europe at night.
Flying clothing challenge
When: 10:00 - 15:00
Navigators were bundled up in flying jackets, flying helmets and gloves. How neatly can you draw a route dressed like this?
Blindfold Flying
When: 11:00 - 12:00, 14:00 - 15:00
Can you guide your blindfolded friends and family along a route with just your instructions?
Accessibility and facilities
We want everyone who comes to our museums to enjoy their time with us and make the most of their visit.
How to get to the space
You can get to the Concorde Experience hangar by walking through the Museum Shop. Walk into the tunnel and the entrance to the Concorde Experience hangar will be on your right.
Shop doors are manual although the outer doors are on hold opens. The door to the tunnel is on hold open, and the interior doors to the hangar are automatic.
There is ramped access to the Hangar.
Wheelchair access
There is significant space to use a wheelchair in the Hangar.
You can borrow a wheelchair from the information desk in the museum shop. There are a limited number of wheelchairs available to borrow.

Due to the historic nature of our collection, Concorde and Boeing 707 can only be boarded by using stairs.
Seating
There are fixed seats with armrests in the hangar.
Hearing induction loop
There is a hearing induction loop at the audio guide desk in the hangar.
Toilets and baby changing facilities
The nearest toilets are next to the entrance of the hangar.
There are standard toilets and an accessible toilet.
A baby changing table is located in the accessible toilet.
There are no Changing Places toilets on site.
