About Woolly Weekend

Celebrate all things woolly with a weekend of family fun at the National Museum of Rural Life.

With themed activities and crafts throughout the museum and farm, there’s plenty for all ages to enjoy!

See woolly farm friends up-close, take part in wool-themed crafts in the museum and explore the galleries with our Dolly the Sheep Trail.

Then head out to the farm to watch YouTube sensation Cammy Wilson at work with our Scottish Blackface flock. Learn how, when and why sheep are sheared and see demonstrations of some traditional and modern shearing techniques.

Accessibility and facilities

We want everyone who comes to our museums to enjoy their time with us and make the most of their visit.

Toilets

Toilets are available in the museum and on the farm.

Adapted toilets are available, including baby changing and an adult changing bench.

Please check the museum map to find the nearest toilets.

Hearing induction loops

There is an induction loop in the cinema.

Outdoor paths

The farm is a 10-minute (0.5 mile) walk on a firm gravel surface and is moderately uphill.

Outdoor paths are uneven and relatively steep, and may not be appropriate for some pushchairs.

Seating is provided at regular intervals.

Wheelchair access

In the museum

A continuous ramp at a gradient of 1:16 leads all the way round the museum building. It can be used to access all galleries and displays in order to bypass the stairs and lifts.

In the farmhouse

The ground floor, but not the first floor, of the farmhouse is accessible by wheelchair.

Assistance dogs

Guide dogs, hearing dogs and other recognised assistance dogs are admitted.

Visit our accessibility page for general access information for the National Museum of Rural Life.
