Description

Memorial head of cast brass, hollow with circular opening in top of the head, used to display carved elephant ivory tusk and decorated with elaborate winged head-dress and wearing coral beads, the flanged base is decorated with royal symbols, including leopards, mudfish, and the heads of sacrificial animals, obtained at the capture of Benin City in February 1897 : Africa, West Africa, Nigeria, Benin, 19th century
