Mirror frame

Description

Jade leaf-shaped mirror frame of Indian origin, acquired by Colonel Charles Seton Guthrie, Bengal Engineers, c. 1820s - 1850s while on service in India. Purchased by the museum when Guthrie’s collection was auctioned in London by Christie, Manson and Woods (now Christies) in 1875 after his death

Physical description

Leaf shaped mirror frame made of white jade, with a flower shrub in open-work, the front inlaid with gold, rubies and emeralds, the back carved with a leafy scroll.
