Description

Sheet from a colour woodblock triptych print entitled Imayo Teru-uji furudera no kozu (Up-to-date Teruuji in an Old Picture at an Old Temple), depicting a scene in a ruined temple by moonlight with torn and peeling fusuma, with Teru-uji offering a towel to his lover Tasogare, and behind the screens the latter's mother, Shinonome, in No costume holding a Hannya mask by its cord in her teeth: Japan, by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, 1849 - 1850
