Mingliu Lu
Collection responsibility: Working with collections from East Asia, particularly China.
Research interests: Chinese material culture; contemporary Chinese visual art; display of religious objects; global exhibition histories; transcultural curating and cross-cultural art exchanges.
Mingliu Lu received her BA and MA in History from Renmin University of China, and her second MA (with distinction) in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester. Her doctoral research at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands) focused on the curatorial practices of Dutch public museums in their exhibitions of contemporary Chinese art from the 1990s to the 2010s.
Mingliu’s research interests focus on the representation of East Asian material culture in a global context, on the interpretation of religious objects in the museum setting, and on museological collaborations with artists and indigenous communities, particularly in commissioning programmes. She is also concerned with the public representation and visibility of minoritised communities and diasporic artists.
