Rebecca McManus
Responsible for: Preparation of vertebrate specimens for the collections.
Research Interest/Expertise: Finite element analysis of skeletal systems, osteological based age determination methods in mammals.
Rebecca started out at the University of Dundee studying Art and Design and completed a CertHE in her first year before discovering a love for physics. Throughout her Physics BSc she was inspired by natural history museum collections and became interested in collecting local species and exploring methods of preparation. After graduating, she spent time volunteering at the Otter Project at Cardiff University where she learnt how to dissect otters and take a wide array of samples for the project’s biobank.
Many of these skills were transferable to her current position as Curatorial Preparator at National Museums Scotland, where she has worked since spring 2024.
