About Ancient Egypt: Journey to the Afterlife

Why was mummification so important to the ancient Egyptians?  Explore the world of ancient Egypt with our Learning Team as we investigate the purpose of mummification and the beliefs, traditions and practices that shaped ancient Egyptian culture.

What will my pupils do in the session?

In this session, pupils will:

  • Explore various objects used in the mummification process
  • Discover items ancient Egyptians might have brought to the afterlife
  • View authentic ancient Egyptian artefacts
  • Solve our mystery object challenge.

Content warning

Please be aware that the session will include an image of a coffin containing a mummified person and discussions about death. We recommend informing any pupils who may need advance warning.
