About Second World War: Life on an RAF Station

Discover the vital roles played by men and women at RAF East Fortune during the Second World War.

Through uniforms, clothing and real objects, your pupils will uncover what life was like on the station and how its personnel helped defend Britain against Nazi Germany. 

What will my pupils do in the session?

Pupils will: 

  • Investigate the lives and roles of young people who joined the RAF and came to RAF East Fortune near Edinburgh
  • Develop their understanding of women’s contribution to the war effort
  • See Second World War artefacts up close
  • Use museum objects as primary sources
  • Participate in interactive quizzes
  • Apply their critical thinking to identify the purpose of a mystery object from the war.
