Museum on the Move - National Museum of Scotland

Bring Maths to life in this fun-filled STEM session. Pupils work together on a series of challenges as they hatch a plan to move one of our large display objects, culminating in a removal truck coding challenge.

What will my pupils do in the workshop?

Pupils will be taken to look at the Bulldog plane, before heading to the Learning studios to help us work out how best to move it. 

Working in small groups pupils will: 

• Discuss the steps that need to be taken when planning to move such a large and valuable object 
• Collaborate on a series of maths related activities which involve weighing, measuring and building models with Lego 
• Finish the session with our very popular removal truck coding challenge 

This workshop is perfect for team building and can act as a rich, holistic assessment tool. We like to reveal to the pupils at the end of the session that they have been doing maths all along, so you may like to focus on the team challenge aspects of the workshop when describing it to your class.
